The cost varies with the option you choose. You can become a monthly member with access to all the lessons for $5 for one week, $9.95 per month, $15 per quarter or you can choose the annual membership at a discounted rate of $50!

Answer:
Currently, we offer several thousand books/CD-ROMs/Videos as well as some music software. For as long as you are a member you will get 10% off of everything in the bookstore. |

I'm just a beginner. How can I learn to play the guitar from scratch on the internet? I mean, don't I need a teacher to show me how to do certain things? |
Answer:
While having a GOOD teacher certainly would be a real plus, all you need to learn to play is at the HotFrets site. We've incorporated animation & interactivity that allows you to advance at your own pace. You have 6 ways to understand each lesson:
- An awesome Tutorial Format with the ability to move one fingering at a time through your lesson while seeing it represented on the guitar neck, TAB & notation and simultaneously hearing each note corresponding to each fingering.
- A Listen button that opens an audio file so you can hear all the subtle nuances of how the lesson should sound when played correctly.
- A Hands View, which shows you a split-screen left/right hand animated view of correct technique and placement or a video of the teacher playing and/or explaining the lesson.
- An Info window which provides you with critical information that applies to the lesson.
- A printable notation window that gives you a full-page TAB/Notation screen. It also serves as a midi file that you can actually play. You can speed it up or slow it down and even adjust the playback speed!
- A Practice window with a PLAY ALONG file that gives you background tracks. The tracks loop for up to 50 times so you can play your lesson over and over until you get it right. If you get lost, you can just hit rewind and start over!

We constantly add to the advanced section of the site. We have teachers that have played with several artists and are capable of challenging the most advanced players. And you'll learn more than just how to play your favorite licks, you'll learn why they work and how to apply them in other songs and musical situations. |

I can get free TAB all over the net. Why do I need your site? What's the difference? |
Answer:
The lessons on the HotFrets site are totally interactive. You control the flow of each lesson. TAB is great if that's all you need to continue to improve your skills. But, if you want to grow, you need to learn things like new techniques and that takes more than a static sheet of paper with a new song or exercise. That takes interaction. That's the main difference.
That being said, we have created a tool called Tab Alive! This handy little tool will allow you to paste tab into a web form and generate the interactive HotFrets lesson interface! You'll hear the notes, see the tab progression as well as see the notes on the guitar fingerboard! In addition, there's a looping feature that allows you to drag across an area and increase or decrease the looping speed. |
